Craft/Work Presents Continuing Conversations: The Past, Present and Future of the Art vs. Craft Debate

The definitions we use to distinguish art and craft are built upon centuries of cultural debate and technological innovations. In this presentation, Keeley Marie Stitt, Nora Renick Rinehart and Molly Roth Scranton will take a closer look a few specific moments in history when the conversation changed: the Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, the 1960’s-70’s, and Modern/Contemporary Art. The panelists and audience members alike will then discuss their hopes for the future of the conversation.The presentation will be followed by a participatory workshop entitled Ways of Valuing with Keeley Marie Stitt that will explore the concepts of Use Value, Exchange Value and Sign Value.
